Fast, Friendly, Fun and a little bit ‘MO

20141005-MoCowBellStartFinish-227On a cold, crisp and clear October morning in 2011, over 1,400 runners and walkers lined up to toe the line in the first ever MO’ Cowbell Half Marathon. The first local half marathon in St. Charles County created by the community, for the community, with the proceeds remaining in the community, MO’ Cowbell has seen immense growth since its beginning and will continue the trend on its 5th Anniversary, Sunday, October 4, 2015.

Organized by The Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles (PfP) with the assistance of Big River Running Company, MO’ Cowbell has blossomed into a multi-event day. Offering a full marathon, half marathon, half marathon relay and 5K, the possibilities are endless for runners and walkers of all ability levels.

Inspired by the SNL skit by Will Farrell and Christopher Walken, this is a race that embraces a good time and doesn’t take itself too seriously. But if you want to take it seriously…you could qualify for Boston with it! The MO’ Cowbell was named the best race in the state worth traveling for by Trip Advisor for a reason!

20141005-MoCowBellStartFinish-249Made popular by touting a fast, flat course, the MO’ Cowbell doesn’t disappoint. Runners and walkers begin at historic Frontier Park in St. Charles and make their way along the riverbanks of the Missouri River and historic neighborhoods. At mile five, participants are not only greeted by enthusiastic cheers coming from the High-Five Zone but enjoy a trip through Hermans Farm Orchard. Entertainment such as the Duchesne High School Band and a chorus of ringing cowbells provide a little boost to anyone’s stride!  From here, runners and walkers continue towards charming New Town, where the community lines the streets cheering on participants.

The marathon and half marathoners bid farewell just past mile 12 and the marathoners make their way towards a stretch of miles on The Katy Trail and a softer, scenic and flat running surface.

20141005-MoCowBellStartFinish-1483Finishing the MO’ Cowbell is an experience like no other! Spectators, family and friends surround the start/finish cheering and ringing what else, cowbells. Crossing under the large inflatable (complete with faux cowhide spots!) is an image that every participant will remember.

To celebrate its 5th Anniversary, MO’ Cowbell will have all of your favorites and plenty of surprises including VIP area, celebration of Alumni who have participated each year, cool swag, great merchandise and much MO’!
