Aside from our running shoes, the next most essential piece of gear for women who run, walk and workout is our sports bra. And while we are generally diligent about replacing old, worn out shoes, we tend not to do so as frequently with our sports bras. Don’t we want to protect and support what’s in our bras??? Ladies, welcome to Sports Bra 101.
DO:
Get fit by a professional! 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size. Wearing a bra that is too big can chafe and not provide proper support.
Replace your sports bra every time you get new shoes! Sports bras have a lifespan just like our shoes. Make a habit of replacing your shoes and bras together every 6-12 months.
Have more than one so you can rotate your bras throughout the week. Ideally, you should have three good sports bras in your rotation; one in the wash, one you are wearing and one that is hanging up to dry.
DON’T:
Don’t wear a sports bra that is so old you can no longer read the tags! This means the bra has probably celebrated too many birthdays. It is time to replace it with a new one!
Don’t double up your sports bras. If you have to wear more than one at the same time, you are not getting what you need. Instead, try a more supportive style that is designed for larger cups.
Don’t wear your same bras if you have recently lost or gained weight. Consider getting re-fitted for a sports bra that reflects your current body size. A supportive bra relies on a perfect fit!
