Meet the Staff: Emma & Shelby

Get to know the fit professionals lacing up your shoes at Big River Running. Meet Emma and Shelby who can be found helping customers at Big River University City.

In Emma’s words: “My name is Emma, and I’ve been a resident of Webster Groves my entire life. I just graduated from Truman State University this past May, and I’ve been working at Big River in University City since then. I competed on Truman’s Cross Country and Track teams all four years while working on my degree in psychology. I’m currently beginning my Master’s in Counseling at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. When I began my running journey as a freshman in high school, my coaches sent us to Big River to go through the fitting process to find the best shoes and gear for our specific feet/needs. Having the right shoes for me allowed me to be confident on my runs, and I’ve been hooked on this sport ever since! It brings me a lot of joy to help others find the right gear for them so they can feel the same way. A fun fact about me is that my family has 2 dogs and 2 cats. Dottie is the one in the picture :)”

Emma’s Favorites:
Favorite training shoe: New Balance 1080
Favorite racing shoe: I haven’t done many road races since I’ve been a collegiate runner the past few years, but the Saucony Havoc spikes have been my loyal racing shoes in college. I look forward to testing out some carbon plated racing shoes in the next few years!
Favorite piece of apparel:  I’ve been loving my Nike 3” shorts and my Balega Hidden Comfort socks.
I can’t go on a run without: my Aftershokz Aeropex

In Shelby’s words: “My name is Shelby and I’m a St. Louis native from Chesterfield who loves all things running, triathlon, outdoors, etc. I recently graduated from Logan University with my Doctorate of Chiropractic so I guess that makes me Dr. Shelby Hummel, D.C.! I’ve been running competitively since I went to Marquette High School where I ran varsity all 4 years. Post college I transitioned from running to triathlon which I love! I have raced all across the globe and more recently qualified for the 2022 Ironman World Championships. In my spare time I love to play board games as well as bake! In the future I hope to start my own chiropractic practice and this December I will be receiving my Masters in Sport Science and Rehabilitation! I’ve been coming to Big River Running as a customer since I was a freshman in high school and I now love that I get to help people find all their shoe and gear needs!”
